Valve's Steam Frame VR headset priced above $1,100, launch targeted for August 2026

Valve's upcoming Steam Frame virtual‑reality headset is expected to launch in early August 2026 with a base price estimated at more than €1,100 (about $1,100) and capped below $1,500. The figure comes from well‑known Valve leaker Tyler McVicker, who cited memory‑chip shortages and a double‑digit price increase from Qualcomm for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor as key cost drivers.

The headset will ship in two storage configurations – 256 GB and 1 TB – and includes 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM, a 2 × 2160 × 2160 LCD display with 72–144 Hz refresh, inside‑out tracking, eye‑tracking, Wi‑Fi 7 connectivity and a micro‑SD slot. Valve had previously promised a lower‑cost successor to the 2019 Index, which sold for $999 as a complete kit, but the leaked price suggests the Steam Frame will be roughly ten percent higher than that benchmark.

Valve has not confirmed the numbers, and the company remains silent on pricing while it navigates component scarcity and rising component costs that have also affected other VR headsets such as Meta’s Quest 3.
