Valve's Steam Frame VR headset receives FCC certification, clearing US market

Valve's upcoming VR headset Steam Frame has obtained regulatory clearance from the U.S. Federal Communications Commission. The FCC issued a Grant of Equipment Authorization on July 29, allowing the device to be sold in the United States and removing the final regulatory hurdle for a planned summer 2026 launch.

The headset uses a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, and Qualcomm announced a double‑digit price increase for its chips effective September 1, which could raise production costs for units manufactured after that date. Steam Frame also features Wi‑Fi 7 MIMO antennas, a dedicated 6 GHz Wi‑Fi 6E hotspot for low‑latency PC‑VR streaming, and 16 GB of LPDDR5X memory. Valve has not disclosed pricing or an exact release schedule, and the first shipments are expected to be built before the Qualcomm price hike takes effect.
