VAMOS party launches internal elections for leadership renewal
The Salvadoran political party VAMOS has initiated the process for internal elections to renew its National Executive Council (CEN), whose current term ends on September 25, 2026.
Two primary leadership groups have submitted their candidacies. Cesia Rivas de López, the current General Secretary, has registered a national slate, emphasizing that the party should not depend on a single individual but rather on a team of complementary leaders.
Simultaneously, Deputy Claudia Ortiz has registered a slate named ‘Avancemos’. Ortiz, who has recently criticized certain internal party decisions, is seeking the position of General Secretary. Her platform focuses on modernizing, professionalizing, and strengthening the party to become a more competitive alternative to the ruling government. The internal electoral process is scheduled to take place on September 20, with the official campaign period beginning on August 30.
