Van begins infrastructure work on 4 million square meter livestock industrial zone

Infrastructure works have commenced on the first phase of the Agriculture-Based Specialized Livestock Organized Industrial Zone (Besi OSB) in Van, Turkey. Spanning approximately 4 million square meters, the project is being developed under the leadership of the Van Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Van TSO).

The facility will consist of 182 parcels designed to house cattle enterprises, meat integrated facilities, a biogas plant, a feed factory, a leather processing plant, and cold storage units. The project aims to modernize livestock farming and move operations away from the city center to mitigate issues such as odor, flies, and visual pollution.

Economic and environmental benefits include the creation of approximately 3,000 jobs and the production of thermal and electrical energy from animal waste via a biogas plant, which is expected to meet the electricity needs of about 1,500 households. Additionally, the on-site feed factory aims to reduce costs for businesses while supporting local farmers by sourcing feed plants from surrounding rural neighborhoods.
