Van Cat Research Centre sees surge in summer tourist visits

The Van Cat Research and Application Centre at Van Yüzüncü Yıl University has experienced a sharp increase in visitors during the summer holiday season. Local and foreign tourists, many travelling with children, flock to the centre to see the protected Van cats, known for their white silky coats and distinctive tails. Centre director Prof. Dr. Abdullah Kaya said the number of visitors has risen markedly, with the influx expected to continue until mid‑September. Guests are allowed close contact with the cats and receive information on conservation projects, aiming to raise public awareness and future stewardship of the breed.
