Van drivers sentenced after killing cyclists in the UK

A 25‑year‑old van driver, Robert Wade, was given a 10‑month suspended prison term, 200 hours of community work and a three‑year driving ban after his vehicle struck and killed 54‑year‑old cyclist Graham Nash on the A65 Settle bypass in North Yorkshire in August 2024. Wade pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving and expressed remorse at Bradford Crown Court.

In a separate case, 66‑year‑old van driver Edward Parsons was found to have cannabis in his system after his Renault van collided with 50‑year‑old cyclist Scott Gillies on Initiative Road in Kirkintilloch, Scotland. Parsons pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and is awaiting sentencing later this month.
