Van Gelder begins transition to fully electric delivery fleet

Van Gelder groente & fruit has begun transitioning to a fully electric delivery fleet, starting with the deployment of two large Renault electric trucks. These vehicles are currently used to supply major customers in areas including Amsterdam and Den Haag.

To ensure 100% emission-free transport, both the vehicle propulsion and the refrigeration systems run entirely on electricity. The two large trucks are expected to cover more than 187,000 kilometers annually, replacing previous diesel usage. This phase serves as a practical test to gain experience with electric transport while monitoring temperature stability to maintain food safety.

The company’s transition plan includes replacing smaller vans with electric versions to facilitate urban deliveries. To support the growing fleet, Van Gelder plans to complete a large electric charging station at its facility in Ridderkerk later this year.
