Van Lake Basin researchers document rare butterfly species

Researchers and nature photographers from various parts of Turkey have traveled approximately 2,000 kilometers to the Van Lake Basin to document and photograph rare butterfly species. The region's unique microclimates and rich flora make it a critical site for biodiversity studies.

During field studies in areas such as Güzeldere, teams utilized specialized equipment to record species including the Hazar Piri Reis and various False Admirable butterflies. While some species like the Mountain Fire were observed in high density, others, such as the Iran Fire, remained elusive during the current expedition.

The findings and photographic archives aim to support nature tourism and future conservation projects. Participants have also raised concerns regarding environmental pollution, specifically plastic waste along roadsides, emphasizing the need for international-scale protection of the basin's ecosystem.
