Van Metropolitan Municipality faces audit findings regarding 8.3 billion TL discrepancy
A Court of Accounts audit report for the Van Metropolitan Municipality and the Van Water and Sewerage Administration (VASKI) has revealed significant financial and administrative irregularities. DEM Party Van MP Mahmut Dindar highlighted a discrepancy of approximately 8.3 billion TL in real estate records, noting that while the municipality's balance sheet lists over 8.67 billion TL in land and buildings, the real estate summary table shows only about 362 million TL.
The report also details rising interest expenses, which reached approximately 963.7 million TL in 2025, following 812.6 million TL in 2024 and 253 million TL in 2023. Total budget expenditures for the municipality over the last three years amounted to approximately 25.5 billion TL.
Additional findings include 26.8 million TL spent on uncertain travel, seminar, and promotion expenses, which reportedly violate austerity measures. In the water administration (VASKI), auditors identified a water loss and leakage rate of 33.76 percent and a 27.4 percent discrepancy between treated and billed water at the Edremit treatment plant. Furthermore, VASKI's failure to pay debts to its personnel company resulted in 259 million TL in interest charges.
