Van province issues raised in Turkish Parliament
Members of the Turkish Grand National Assembly have raised several urgent concerns regarding the Van province, specifically focusing on the Başkale district and the Van Ring Road project.
DEM Party MP Gülderen Varlı submitted parliamentary inquiries addressing economic, social, and infrastructure deficits in Başkale. Key issues include inadequate transportation, water supply, and unplanned urbanization. A significant portion of the inquiry focuses on the delay of natural gas investments. Although Başkale was included in the 2023–2026 natural gas supply plan, Varlı noted a lack of a concrete timeline and questioned the allocation of the 584.8 million lira investment planned for Van in 2026.
Additionally, MP Mahmut Dindar highlighted safety hazards regarding the Van Ring Road, a project that has faced delays since 2010. Dindar reported that the road contains deep potholes and depressions, posing risks to drivers. He criticized the lack of transparency and the failure of authorities to respond to previous inquiries regarding the project's status and the safety of the sections already opened to traffic.
