Van resident seeks medical aid for children with Huntington disease
Halit Asilay, a father of five living in Van, Turkey, is seeking urgent medical assistance for his children who are battling Huntington disease. The genetic neurological disorder, which causes movement abnormalities and cognitive decline, claimed the life of his wife six years ago after she spent nine years bedridden.
Two of Asilay's children are currently suffering from the condition. His 27-year-old child is also living with a mental disability, while his 25-year-old son, Ferhat, engages in frequent self-harm and recently attempted suicide. Additionally, Asilay's other two children suffer from kidney disease, with his daughter requiring urgent surgery.
Citing financial hardship and the severity of his children's symptoms, Asilay has appealed to authorities for help. He expressed interest in medical treatment options being developed in the United Kingdom to address the Huntington disease.
