Van stakeholders discuss new peace and democratic process
Stakeholders in Van, including politicians, civil society organizations, and business leaders, are conducting evaluations regarding a new peace and democratic society process in Turkey. Discussions focus on the potential impacts of the process on the region, emphasizing the need for social inclusion beyond political actors to ensure lasting peace, democratization, and economic development.
DEM Party officials, including Sidar Fırat Yanık and Nur Hayat Polat, have called for all sectors of society to take responsibility to move past the consequences of conflict. Polat noted that while there is public expectation for peace, the state must also take concrete steps and legal measures to strengthen the process.
Pervin Buldan, a member of the DEM Party Imrali Delegation, visited the Peace Mothers Assembly in Van. During her visit, Buldan emphasized the central role of women and mothers in the struggle for peace. She advocated for an “honorable peace” that recognizes the rights and legal status of the Kurdish people, noting that mothers have consistently supported peace efforts despite facing significant hardships.
