Van water meter replacement sparks criticism over costs

Remzi Ergenç has raised concerns regarding the replacement of water meters in Van by VASKİ. He questioned why meters that have not yet reached the end of their economic or technical lifespan are being replaced with smart, remotely readable meters.

Ergenç argued that replacing functional meters without clear justification leads to a waste of public resources and places an unnecessary financial burden on citizens. He called for transparency regarding the tender processes, the unit costs of the new meters, and the specific fees being charged to subscribers for installation and software.

VASKİ has stated that the transition from mechanical to smart meters is part of a digital transformation and will be implemented across all districts, rural neighborhoods, and public institutions in Van.
