Van YYÜ Medical Center provides regional breast cancer diagnostics
The Breast Radiology Unit at Van Yüzüncü Yıl University (YYÜ) Dursun Odabaş Medical Center plays a critical role in the early diagnosis and treatment planning of breast cancer. Serving patients from Van and surrounding provinces, including Ağrı, Muş, Bitlis, Hakkari, Bingöl, Şırnak, and Iğdır, the center evaluates approximately 1,500 patients annually.
Medical staff perform biopsies on suspicious lesions and conduct marking procedures for necessary treatments. Approximately 30% to 40% of the patients evaluated at the center are found to have malignant findings. Diagnostic processes include mammography, ultrasonography, and MRI with contrast mammography.
To ensure personalized care, the center holds weekly multidisciplinary council meetings. These sessions involve specialists in general surgery, medical oncology, pathology, radiation oncology, and radiology to review findings and develop individualized treatment plans.
