Van Yüzüncü Yıl University hosts interdisciplinary health congress
Van Yüzüncü Yıl University (YYÜ) hosted the 1st Holistic Interdisciplinary Health Research Congress from October 31 to November 1. The event focused on the theme of psycho-oncology, emphasizing the necessity of an interdisciplinary approach to healthcare.
Associate Professor Faruk Kurhan, Chair of the Congress and faculty member at the YYÜ Faculty of Medicine, stated that cancer is not merely a physical illness but a holistic process involving the patient's family, future, and fears. He noted that while medical specialization allows for better diagnosis and timely intervention, it can make it difficult to evaluate the patient as a whole.
The congress brought together academics from various disciplines to discuss cancer biology, surgery, oral and dental health, mental health, nursing, communication, and patient rights. The discussions highlighted that understanding a patient's physical, psychological, and social needs requires the combined expertise and experience of different medical fields.
