Vancouver Canucks GM Ryan Johnson pledges support for Elias Pettersson
Vancouver Canucks general manager Ryan Johnson has expressed a commitment to creating a supportive environment for forward Elias Pettersson to help him regain his offensive form. Johnson stated his goal is to provide a space that “allows him to be himself” and ensures the player feels “excited to come into the arena every day.”
Pettersson, who signed an eight-year, $92.8 million contract in 2024, has faced scrutiny following a decline in production after a career-high 102-point season in 2022-23. While Pettersson was a major subject of trade speculation during the offseason, reports indicate that discussions did not materialize into a move, partly due to the difficulty of managing his contract.
The Canucks are looking for Pettersson to justify his $11.6 million annual cap hit by returning to his status as a top-line threat as the team seeks to improve its standing in the Western Conference.
