Vancouver emergency crews rescue man from Columbia River

Vancouver police and firefighters rescued a man from the Columbia River on Tuesday afternoon. The rescue operation began around 2:30 pm after officers, who were originally dispatched to the waterfront for a welfare check, observed a man jump into the river.

The man was approximately 100 feet from the shore and was struggling to swim while calling for assistance. Two rescue swimmers from the fire department entered the water, reached the man, and brought him safely back to the shoreline.

Portland Fire and Rescue transported the individual to a nearby dock, after which he was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. Officials reported that the man was in stable condition and is expected to recover.
