VIJHL teams secure wins in 2026-27 season openers
The Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League (VIJHL) commenced its 2026-27 season with several opening game victories.
On September 4, the Victoria Cougars secured a 6-5 overtime win against the Saanich Predators, led by Avery Lowe’s hat trick. The Nanaimo Buccaneers defeated the Lake Cowichan Kraken 3-2, while the Westshore Wolves beat the Peninsula Panthers 4-1.
On September 5, the Campbell River Storm earned a 4-1 victory over the Comox Valley Glacier Kings. The Port Alberni Bombers defeated the Oceanside Generals 5-2, and the Peninsula Panthers won 4-2 against the Kerry Park Islanders.
In separate news, the Vancouver Bandits basketball team recently unveiled a renovated outdoor basketball court at Grays Park in South Vancouver as part of their Court Projects campaign to improve community sports spaces.
