British Columbia faces ferry backlogs and construction safety fines

BC Ferries is experiencing significant service delays, with backlogs affecting travelers to and from Vancouver Island. Drivers heading to Greater Victoria via Swartz Bay from Tsawwassen face waits of up to eight sailings, potentially extending into Saturday. Similarly, those traveling to Duke Point face delays through Saturday morning. While some deck space remains available on certain evening sailings, travelers are urged to check current conditions and use reservations.

In a separate development, WorkSafeBC has issued multiple fines to construction companies in the Fraser Valley for safety violations. Penalties include over $19,000 for Langley Roofing Co. Ltd. for failing to comply with a stop-work order, and $24,493 for M & M Excavating Services Ltd. after striking a gas line. Other fines were issued to Bassi & Sons Construction Ltd., Popular Stucco Wiring Ltd., and Uppal Plastering & Stucco Ltd. for issues including lack of fall protection, improper scaffolding, and missing guardrails.
