Vancouver Island fire incidents damage Ladysmith school and Brentwood Bay restaurant

A fire broke out in the computer lab of Ladysmith Secondary School on June 2, 2026. The blaze triggered the sprinkler system and caused smoke and water damage to multiple classrooms, forcing the school to close on Wednesday and Thursday while the smoke cleared. Four fire engines and 14 firefighters from Ladysmith Fire/Rescue, assisted by the North Oyster Fire Department, responded. No students were inside the building and no injuries were reported.

In a separate incident, the Garden Fork restaurant in Brentwood Bay caught fire early on June 6, 2026. Flames engulfed the basement, main floor and attic, and the building was declared a total loss. Central Saanich Fire Department, with aid from Saanich and Sidney fire services, contained the blaze by mid‑morning. Police are investigating the cause. No one was inside the restaurant at the time and no injuries were reported.
