Greater Victoria municipalities implement noise and fire safety regulations

Municipalities in the Greater Victoria region are implementing various regulatory measures to address noise and fire safety. In Victoria, city staff are recommending updates to noise bylaws, which may include a ban on gas-powered leaf blowers and increased fines for violations. Proposed changes aim to modernize rules from 2003 by using decibel limits and improved definitions to better manage construction, vehicle, and event noise.

Simultaneously, several West Shore communities are maintaining strict fire bans despite the provincial lifting of campfire prohibitions on Vancouver Island. Sooke, Metchosin, Langford, and Highlands have kept bans in place due to high to extreme fire danger levels. Local fire officials noted that recent rainfall was insufficient to mitigate the risk in these specific areas, and they will continue to monitor daily reports before reconsidering the restrictions.
