Vancouver Island resident loses $600,000 to cryptocurrency scam

Oceanside RCMP reported that a resident of the ParksvilleQualicum Beach area lost $600,000 after responding to an online advertisement promoting a cryptocurrency scheme that a politician allegedly recommended on June 23. The loss was part of a total of 323 complaints the RCMP received during the week of June 22‑28, which also included numerous thefts and break‑ins across the community.

The police noted that a commercial vehicle stolen from a parking lot in Parksville on June 22 was recovered on June 25, and an e‑bike and other items were also reported stolen during the same period.
