Vancouver police urge caution after fatal pedestrian collision

The Vancouver Police Department is urging increased caution on roads following a fatal collision involving a pedestrian early Sunday morning. A 45-year-old woman was struck by a southbound SUV while crossing Main Street at National Avenue just after midnight.

The victim was thrown approximately 30 meters and, despite resuscitation efforts by emergency responders, was pronounced dead at the scene. At the time of the incident, it was dark and raining heavily. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators; police stated that alcohol and substance use are not believed to be factors in the crash.

This incident marks the second pedestrian collision in Vancouver within a three-day period. On Thursday, a seven-year-old girl sustained minor injuries after being hit by a vehicle at East Pender Street and Victoria Drive. Police continue to investigate the fatal collision.
