Vancouver Whitecaps CEO reports no progress on MLS team sale

Axel Schuster, CEO of the Vancouver Whitecaps, stated that there has been no progress regarding the sale of the Major League Soccer (MLS) franchise, which has been on the market since December 2024.

Schuster noted that while many interested parties have expressed interest, none have resulted in viable offers. The club previously reported that over 100 groups showed interest and more than 30 were granted access to financial records.

A primary challenge in securing a buyer committed to keeping the team in Vancouver is the club's inability to own its home stadium, BC Place. The venue is owned and operated by PavCo, a provincial Crown corporation. This limitation on revenue generation has complicated efforts to attract new ownership.

Club and MLS officials have held meetings with municipal, provincial, and federal government representatives, as well as leaders of three local First Nations, to discuss the team's future. Discussions with the provincial government regarding stadium options were recently interrupted by a cabinet shuffle.
