Vancouver Whitecaps Lose 1-0 to Atlante FC in Leagues Cup Opener

The Vancouver Whitecaps were defeated 1-0 by Mexican side Atlante FC in the opening match of the 2026 Leagues Cup on August 4. Goalkeeper Isaac Boehmer kept the score close, but Atlante forward Luis Puente scored in the 24th minute after beating defender Ralph Priso. The Whitecaps dominated possession in the first half but could not convert chances, and a second Atlante goal in the 40th minute sealed the win.

Whitecaps head coach Jesper Sorensen made three halftime substitutions in an effort to spark a comeback, bringing on Emmanuel Sabbi and Thomas Muller among others. Despite increased pressure and several near‑misses, the Vancouver side failed to equalise before the final whistle. The match was played in front of 19,824 spectators at the Whitecaps' home stadium.
