Vancouver Whitecaps seek control of BC Place to increase matchday revenue
The Vancouver Whitecaps have submitted a proposal to take over the management of BC Place from the Crown corporation PavCo. The club argues that the current arrangement limits its matchday revenue and stadium availability, which threatens its long‑term stay in the city. Under the plan, the Whitecaps would operate the venue and share a portion of revenue with PavCo, similar to Toronto FC’s agreement at BMO Field. Control of concessions, such as beer sales, could boost earnings, and the team hopes the arrangement would also free up the stadium for more summer concerts and events.
The proposal comes as the Whitecaps face ongoing relocation rumours and have been on the market for 19 months. The team currently receives about $1.5 million in matchday revenue from PavCo, which it says is insufficient. By running BC Place, the club aims to secure more reliable dates for MLS matches and avoid scheduling conflicts like the recent CONCACAF Champions Cup game that had to be moved to Starlight Stadium.
