Vancouver Whitecaps sign Tate Johnson to long-term extension

The Vancouver Whitecaps have signed defender Tate Johnson to a long-term contract extension through the 2029-30 Major League Soccer season. The deal includes a club option to extend his stay through the 2030-31 season.

Johnson, a 21-year-old United States youth international, was selected 15th overall in the 2025 MLS SuperDraft from the University of North Carolina. Since joining the club, he has made 68 appearances across all competitions, including 55 starts. His defensive contributions and playmaking have earned him recognition with the U20 and U21 United States national teams.

Whitecaps sporting director Axel Schuster noted that Johnson has made significant strides since his arrival, demonstrating an ability to impact the game at a high level. Johnson expressed his excitement about remaining in Vancouver and contributing to the future success of the club and the city.
