Vandal destroys Hesperidka sculpture in Loštice, Czech Republic

On Tuesday night after 22:00, an unknown vandal knocked over the concrete sculpture "Hesperidka" by academic sculptor Ondřej Navrátil on the Míru square in the town of Loštice. The impact caused the head of the artwork to break off and extensive damage to the piece. The municipality estimates the loss at about 80,000 Czech crowns. Mayor Šárka Havelková Seifertová said the sculpture was insured but is a unique work that cannot be replaced. Police spokesperson Miluše Zajícová confirmed the incident, noted that camera footage exists and that the case is being investigated as property damage, which carries a possible one‑year prison sentence. The police are seeking witnesses to identify the perpetrator.
