Two separate incidents of vandalism and theft targeting sites associated with Blessed Alojzije Stepinac have been reported in Croatia.
In Krašić, unknown perpetrators broke into the Stepinac Memorial Home, the location where the former Archbishop of Zagreb spent his final years. The intruders stole money and caused material damage to the property. Local clergy expressed relief that the relics and rooms directly associated with Stepinac’s life were not damaged, though the theft has raised concerns regarding the security of church sites open to the public.
Simultaneously, a mural of Stepinac in the Blatine district of Split was desecrated. The artwork, which includes the Vatican coat of arms, was defaced with red spray paint and offensive inscriptions. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances of both incidents.
