Vandalism Targets Sacred Shrines in Salerno, Italy

In Salerno, Italy, a series of vandalism incidents has struck three religious shrines within a few days. In the underpass at Via Torrione and Via Pietro Petrone, unknown individuals set up an illegal bivouac, used portable stoves, and left assorted waste, defiling a cherished white crucifix. Earlier, the historic statue of Christ in the glass case at Largo San Giovanniello was decapitated, and the small Madonna statue known as the Madonnina di Canalone was also damaged.

Local residents have expressed outrage on social media and are demanding stronger police patrols and the installation of video surveillance to protect these devotional sites. Authorities have called for any photographs or videos of the acts to be submitted to aid the investigation.
