Vandellòs i l'Hospitalet de l'Infant buys thermal alert bracelets for outdoor staff
The Vandellòs i l'Hospitalet de l'Infant City Council has purchased 60 thermal alert bracelets to protect municipal staff working outdoors from extreme heat. The devices are split equally between the Public Works and Services department and the Environment department.
The bracelets are designed to emit light, sound, and vibration alerts when a worker's body temperature reaches 37.8°C or when the ambient temperature hits 42°C. Upon activation, workers are instructed to follow a protocol that includes stopping work, moving to a shaded area, hydrating, and notifying a supervisor.
Councilor Laura Olmo stated that the measure is a preventive tool intended to help workers make timely decisions rather than simply reacting to heat-related risks. The investment for the 60 devices totaled 2,587.46 euros, and the bracelets feature long battery life, requiring charging approximately once every six months.
