Vanderbilt football coach Clark Lea demands improvement after miracle win

Vanderbilt football head coach Clark Lea is addressing his team’s performance following a dramatic comeback victory against NC State. Despite moving to a 3-0 record, Lea has characterized recent play as unconvincing and described the win over NC State as a “slopfest” where the team was not playing to its full potential.

The victory was secured in the final six seconds of the game after Vanderbilt overcame a 17-point deficit. An unconventional defensive play, designed to generate pressure on the edges, resulted in a forced fumble in the end zone that allowed Vanderbilt to recover the ball and secure the win.

Looking ahead to an upcoming SEC road matchup against Auburn, Lea emphasized that the team must improve to avoid being “exposed.” He noted that while the recent win was a significant moment for fans, the coaching staff is focused on correcting inconsistencies in play that have persisted through the first three games of the season.
