Vanessa Guillén murder to be depicted in upcoming film
Mighty Aphrodite Pictures has announced a film project detailing the life and death of Vanessa Guillén, a Mexican-American soldier whose 2020 murder at Fort Hood, Texas, sparked significant military reforms in the United States.
Director Jorge Xolalpa, founder of the Los Angeles-based production company, stated that the film will be produced in cooperation with the Guillén family. The project aims to preserve her legacy and address the systemic issues surrounding sexual harassment in the military. Guillén’s death led to the ‘Soy Vanessa Guillén Law,’ which was included in the 2022 National Defense Authorization Act, classifying sexual harassment as a crime under the Military Justice Code.
In 2020, soldier Aaron Robinson murdered Guillén and subsequently committed suicide. His partner, Cecily Aguilar, was sentenced to 30 years in prison for her involvement in the crime.
