Vanguard and competitors drive down global ETF fees

The market for global Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) is experiencing intense price competition as providers lower management fees to attract retail investors.

Vanguard has reduced the total expense ratio (TER) of its FTSE All-World UCITS ETF from 0.19 percent to 0.14 percent. This move is estimated to save investors approximately 32 million euros annually. Meanwhile, Vanguard has also launched a new FTSE Global All-Cap UCITS ETF with an exceptionally low TER of 0.07 percent. This new product offers broader diversification by including small-cap companies, covering over 7,000 stocks compared to the roughly 4,265 found in standard All-World indices.

Competition remains high from other providers. The Xtrackers FTSE All-World UCITS ETF offers a competitive rate, and the State Street SPDR MSCI ACWI IMI UCITS ETF has previously served as a primary low-cost option for unfiltered global market exposure with a TER of 0.17 percent. These fee reductions highlight a trend toward making broad market diversification increasingly accessible and inexpensive for long-term investors.
