Vanguard ETFs outperform S&P 500 and Nasdaq-100 benchmarks

Certain Vanguard exchange-traded funds (ETFs) are currently outperforming major market benchmarks, including the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq-100. The Vanguard Energy ETF (VDE) has seen a year-to-date increase of 42.3%, significantly outpacing the S&P 500's 13.8% gain and the Nasdaq-100's 23.2% rise.

Despite this strong performance, these funds face potential near-term risks. The Vanguard Energy ETF's gains are partly attributed to the ongoing war in Iran, which has influenced oil prices. If the conflict concludes and oil prices decline, energy equities could face selling pressure. Conversely, sustained high oil prices could lead to demand destruction, presenting another challenge for the sector.
