Vanguard Newspapers marks 40 years with book launch

Vanguard Newspapers is celebrating its 40th anniversary with the launch of ‘The Vanguard Chronology: 40 Years of Nigeria’s Leading Tabloid’. The book, compiled by the Vanguard Media Alumni Association, documents the publication’s evolution from a young tabloid to an influential national newspaper, capturing key political, economic, and social milestones in Nigeria.

The launch event in Lagos features several prominent figures, including former Head of State General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, elder statesman Chief Olusegun Osoba, and Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu. During the proceedings, Babangida emphasized the necessity of a free and responsible press for national prosperity, describing the publication as a living chronicle of the nation’s journey.

In his keynote address, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu is expected to speak on the theme, ‘Fighting Insecurity in Nigeria: The Need for Media Collaboration’. The event also honors Vanguard publisher Sam Amuka for his contributions to the Nigerian media landscape.
