Vanja Drkušić joins RCD Espanyol on loan from Zenit

Slovenian international defender Vanja Drkušić has been officially presented as a new player for RCD Espanyol. Drkušić joins the Spanish club on loan from Russian side Zenit Saint Petersburg, with the agreement including a purchase option at the end of the season.

During his presentation, Drkušić revealed that while Greek club PAOK showed significant interest in his signing, a phone call from Espanyol’s sporting director, Monchi, was the decisive factor in his choice to play in La Liga. He noted the technical quality of Spanish football compared to the more physical style of the Russian league.

There is speculation that Drkušić could make an immediate debut this weekend against Real Madrid. This possibility arises because veteran defender Leandra Cabrera is serving a three-match suspension following an incident in the previous season.
