Van's Aircraft delivers first MOSAIC‑certified RV‑12iS at AirVenture 2026
The FAA’s new Part 22 MOSAIC certification framework became effective in July 2026, expanding light‑sport aircraft eligibility and allowing instrument‑flight capabilities. Van’s Aircraft handed over the first airplane certified under this framework—a RV‑12iS painted Cub Yellow—during EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2026. The aircraft was delivered to EAA lifetime member Tom Snow, who will lease it to Crystal Air Academy in Chattanooga for flight‑training use.
The MOSAIC‑certified RV‑12iS retains the proven Rotax 912iS engine and airframe while adding hardware such as a heated AOA‑capable pitot, alternate static source, a second alternator, and upgraded radiator and oil cooler. Priced at $246,200 for an IFR‑ready version, Van’s is producing roughly one unit every four days, with demand driven largely by flight schools—over 40 schools and more than 100,000 training hours logged on the type. The new certification marks the first factory‑new aircraft capable of instrument operations under the expanded light‑sport rules.
