Vantage Point Global opens Costa Rica’s first medical cannabis lab

Vantage Point Global has inaugurated Costa Rica’s first medical cannabis manufacturing laboratory in El Guarco, Cartago. The facility marks a transition for the company, which previously focused on exporting raw cannabis materials through its Hybrida Farms operation.

The new laboratory is designed to produce finished pharmaceutical products, including oils, concentrates, syrups, and tablets. These products are intended for export to international markets such as Germany, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. While the company aims to sell products domestically, regulatory gaps in Costa Rican law currently make it difficult to register finished medical cannabis products for the local market, despite the 2022 legalization of medical and therapeutic cannabis.

The expansion is expected to impact local employment, with the company estimating its workforce could grow from approximately 85 employees to 420 as operations develop. During the inauguration, former Vice President Stephan Brunner noted the company’s resilience in navigating regulatory and political hurdles since the passage of Law 10,113.
