Var department faces heavy rain and wildfire risks

The Var department in France is facing significant weather-related challenges. Météo-France has issued a yellow alert for rain, flooding, and thunderstorms starting the night of September 30 through October 1. This Mediterranean episode is expected to bring intense, lasting rainfall, particularly near the coast and in southern reliefs such as the Monts Toulonnais and the Massif des Maures. An orange alert for flooding remains a possibility depending on the storm's intensity.

In addition to rainfall concerns, wildfire risks are high. The prefecture has placed the Centre-Var, Estérel, and Maures massifs under orange vigilance for severe fire risk, advising against forest access and regulating work hours. In Cabasse, firefighters were deployed to combat a fire that started in a 4,000 m³ compost pile and spread to approximately 1,000 m² of vegetation. The operation involved 25 firefighters and two water-bombing helicopters.
