VAR officials dropped following Manchester derby error
VAR officials Matt Donohue and assistant Blake Antrobus have been removed from upcoming Premier League fixtures following a controversial decision during the Manchester derby.
During the match between Manchester United and Manchester City, a goal by Erling Haaland was awarded after a VAR check determined he was onside. The decision followed a lengthy review regarding whether Enzo Fernandez interfered with play from an offside position.
Pro Ref issued a statement admitting an error was made, noting that Donohue failed to instruct referee Michael Oliver to conduct an on-field review at the monitor. While the VAR officials have been dropped for the weekend, Michael Oliver is still scheduled to officiate the match between Bournemouth and Liverpool.
