Var region: Urban greening in Toulon and forest fire risks

In the Var department of France, local initiatives and environmental conditions are shaping regional activity. At the École élémentaire du Brusquet in Toulon, a major schoolyard renovation has successfully reduced temperatures by up to 5°C under newly planted plane trees compared to traditional shade sails. The project involved de-paving nearly 3,000 m² to create green spaces, outdoor classrooms, and play areas.

However, environmental concerns persist as the Centre-Var and Maures forest massifs faced severe fire risks, leading to restricted access and regulated work schedules.

Amidst these conditions, various cultural and community events were scheduled across the region, including the Foire à la saucisse in Le Val and an association forum in Fréjus. Additionally, the historical symbolism of the Rayol-Canadel-sur-Mer coat of arms was highlighted, featuring elements like a sun, a boat, and squirrels to represent the local landscape and history.
