Varaždin celebrates 476 years of market tradition

The city of Varaždin celebrated the Day of the Varaždin Market, marking 476 years of fairground tradition. The event, which commemorates the right to hold weekly fairs granted to the city on September 12, 1550, featured a central culinary competition focused on preparing 'kotlovina', a traditional regional dish.

Approximately twenty teams participated in the cooking competition, using unique recipes to showcase their culinary skills. Mayor Neven Bosilj attended the festivities, noting that the market serves as the soul of the city, providing a social space for residents that modern shopping centers cannot replicate.

Željka Vincek Strugar, director of the City Market, emphasized the importance of preserving the market's role as a meeting point for local producers and consumers amidst modern challenges, aiming to pass this tradition on to future generations.
