Varaždin County declares drought natural disaster

Varaždin County Prefect Anđelko Stričak has declared a state of natural disaster due to drought for eight municipalities—Cestica, Maruševec, Vidovec, Bednja, Klenovnik, Mali Bukovec, Veliki Bukovec, and Trnovec Bartolovečki—and two cities, Varaždin and Lepoglava.

The drought, characterized by prolonged dry periods and high temperatures from June to August, has caused significant damage to various agricultural crops. In many affected areas, estimated losses exceed 30 percent of the expected yield, resulting in stunted plant development and reduced harvests.

Farmers have eight days from the declaration to report damages to their local municipal commissions in writing using the prescribed forms. Following this, local commissions must provide initial damage assessments within 15 days and final assessments to the county commission within 50 days.
