Varaždin students use earthquake simulator for disaster training

Over 1,000 fifth-grade students in Varaždin County are participating in a disaster preparedness campaign titled ‘Adopt Knowledge to Minimize Damage’. Running from September 18 to October 8 at the Mechanical and Traffic School in Varaždin, the initiative aims to teach children how to react correctly during earthquakes and other emergencies.

The centerpiece of the program is an earthquake simulator, which allows students to experience ground tremors of varying intensities in a controlled environment. This includes simulations of real historical earthquakes recorded in Croatia and globally. In addition to the simulator, students are presented with educational models of earthquakes, floods, and erosion, alongside age-appropriate learning materials.

The campaign is organized by the Ministry of the Interior through the Civil Protection Directorate in cooperation with the Agency for Education and Teacher Training. Varaždin County is supporting the implementation by providing transportation for the participating students.
