Varanasi begins Dalmandi road widening project
Construction has officially commenced on the Dalmandi road widening project in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The project, which follows the demolition of 181 houses and six religious sites, began with a ground-breaking ceremony led by South Varanasi MLA Neelkanth Tiwari.
The project involves widening a 650-meter stretch of road to approximately 17.4–17.5 meters. Estimates for the project cost range between 215 and 221 crore rupees. The modern infrastructure is designed to include underground utilities—such as sewer lines, water connections, and Wi-Fi—to prevent frequent digging and eliminate overhead wires.
The development aims to alleviate chronic traffic congestion in one of Varanasi's busiest commercial areas, benefiting local traders and commuters. Construction is expected to be completed by November.
