Varanasi film project eyes massive commercial scale

The upcoming film ‘Varanasi’, directed by SS Rajamouli and starring Mahesh Babu, is generating significant industry interest due to its massive scale and high commercial valuation. Reports suggest the Telugu theatrical rights are being valued at approximately Rs. 320-325 crores, a figure that would require the film to achieve substantial box office gross to break even.

Director SS Rajamouli has described the project as a ‘hard-core spectacle with emotion as its base’, focusing on themes such as the bond between a father and son. The film is being produced on an international scale, with a narrative spanning seven countries and various time periods, including sequences shot in Antarctica and Africa.

The ensemble cast includes Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Prithviraj Sukumaran. ‘Varanasi’ is currently scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on April 7, 2027.
