Varanasi launches Kashi Terrace Artwork Project to beautify rooftops

The Varanasi Municipal Corporation has launched the Kashi Terrace Artwork Project, an urban beautification initiative designed to showcase the cultural heritage of Banaras. The project involves transforming approximately 11,120.34 square meters of rooftops into large-scale paintings along a new ropeway corridor.

According to Municipal Commissioner Himanshu Nagpal, the artwork will depict elements of the city’s identity, including its tourism, handicrafts, and local cuisine such as Banarasi paan, rabri lassi, and golki kachori. The project aims to provide a unique visual experience for pilgrims and tourists traveling via the ropeway, connecting them with the city’s traditions as they view the landscape from above. The ropeway construction is nearing completion, with services expected to begin soon.
