Varanasi officials suspect conspiracy after sandbags found clogging sewer lines
Authorities in Varanasi suspect a deliberate conspiracy to cause urban flooding after discovering various materials clogging the city's main sewer lines. During cleaning operations in several wards, including Shivala, Saraynandan, and Nagwa, officials found sandbags, sawdust, stones, plywood, and plastic debris stuffed inside the pipes.
In the Shivala area alone, approximately 12 bags of sand were recovered. The blockage caused sewage to overflow into residential lanes, disrupting daily life. The Varanasi Municipal Corporation has viewed this as a targeted attempt to damage the reputation of the municipal administration and the water department.
Mayor Ashok Kumar Tiwari and Municipal Commissioner Himanshu Nagpal inspected the affected sites. The administration has submitted a written complaint to the police to file an FIR against unknown individuals. Officials are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify those responsible for the sabotage.
