Varanasi police arrest suspect in Shreya Upadhyay murder conspiracy
Varanasi police have made a breakthrough in the murder of M.Sc. student Shreya Upadhyay, revealing a conspiracy involving her former partner, Vivek Chaubey, and his friend, Puneet Mishra. Investigations indicate that Chaubey, who was reportedly unhappy about Upadhyay’s upcoming engagement to a DRDO official, orchestrated the killing to settle disputes and potentially for property interests.
To execute the plan, Chaubey allegedly recruited Mishra, who was facing significant debt from online loan apps. Mishra was reportedly promised 22 lakh rupees to assist in the murder and the disposal of the body. The duo rented a room in the Bachhaon area of Rohania specifically to carry out the crime.
Following a police encounter, Mishra was arrested by a joint team from the Crime Branch and Rajatalab police. Mishra sustained a gunshot wound to the leg during the exchange and was hospitalized. Authorities recovered an illegal firearm and ammunition from his possession. While Mishra is in custody, the primary suspect, Vivek Chaubey, remains at large, and police are conducting raids to apprehend him and another accomplice who escaped during the encounter.
